CANYON WALLS rising around you... relaxing next to a campfire away from the rigors of civilization... no phones, no traffic, just the challenge of the trout, the quiet of the river and the beauty of the unspoiled Montana landscape. That's the Smith River experience in a nutshell.

The Smith River remains PRO's premier float fishing trip. This five-day, four-night voyage winds down 61 miles of pristine water with fabulous scenery. Breath-taking limestone cliffs, abundant wildlife, fascinating geology, and great fishing are a combination which keeps this excursion one of the most sought after float trips in the country. The Smith is a photographer's dream and a bird watcher's paradise.

The Smith River is mostly fast moving with some white water just to add a little excitement. It has extremely good holding water for larger fish along the banks, in pocket water, and in deep pools. There are great areas to wade fish either on stops during the day or later in the evening after you hit camp. Wild browns and rainbows are there for the taking. All you have to do is get the fly in the right spot — and there are lots of those. A recent guest exclaimed, "It's the only river I have ever fished where I always have a choice of several great spots I want to cast!"

You will enjoy the comforts of large tents, cots with pads and pillows, sturdy and clean outdoor toilets; and home cooked, healthful, sit-down meals complete with dinner wine. A camp crew freights the gear downstream each day to ensure the camp is up and the welcome mat out as you arrive each afternoon.

Over the years PRO has learned to make camping unbelievably comfortable. We've had river guests with ages from four to over ninety, and we brought them back with smiles as bright as a Montana morning.
